Welcome to AshlynWouldGo.com

Ashlyn Would Go! Foundation for Futures was established in memory of our daughter Ashlyn who died at age 14 on April 21, 2005 from Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

She was a delightful young woman with many interests, including literature, the arts and a tremendous love for surfing and the ocean.

The foundation was established in her memory and is an effort to help others reach their full potential in life.

We are very pleased to announce that we have received 19 applications for the first Ashlyn Shoemaker Memorial Scholarship, to be awarded to a 08 graduate of Ball High in Galveston. An announcement regarding the winner will be made in the coming weeks.

We had two great events this summer!

The 2nd Annual Ashlyn Shoemaker Memorial Grom Roundup-Port Aransas went off! We had a day of good swell for the event, with favorable winds, blue skies and that beautiful Port A water. We made a lot of new friends and met some great families who appreciate surfing as a family sport. Big thanks to our collaborators: Port A Surf Co and the Shannon family, Surfrider, the South coast TGSA crew and G Scott who provided the memories. The 3rd Annual Ashlyn Shoemaker Memorial Grom Roundup-Galveston was a huge success! The weather cooperated and the kids had a great day enjoying the beach with their families.

Many thanks to: Surfrider Foundation-Texas Chapter, Soundwaves, Surf Specialties, Ohana, El Ride, Slotted and all of the tribe at TGSA.

These kids surfing contests draw families from across the state to share a day of fellowship at the beach and remember the wonderful young woman that we lost. These are family friendly events and every young contestant is a winner.

In related news, we have committed to purchase two Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) for the Texas Gulf Surfing Association. This will allow for one to be on hand for both the north and south districts, should a competitor or spectator have a cardiac event.
